Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh celebrates high score for hospital cleanliness

Newsdate: 26th May 2006

The Healthcare Commission today (Friday) published the national and individual trust results of the survey of patients who stay overnight in hospital.  Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust is delighted to report that once again we have improved the services we provide for our patients. We welcome the survey because it gives us an opportunity to gain an independent view of what patients think about the service they are receiving.  The overall results for the patient survey were extremely positive, however we will continue to address areas where we can achieve even further service improvements

We are particularly pleased to have scored yet again in the top performing 20% of Trusts for hospital cleanliness.

A recent patient survey based on a MORI survey looking at patient priorities as part of the national Choose and Book programme indicated that patients placed hospital cleanliness as their top priority when choosing which hospital they would attend.  Therefore, we are justifiably proud to have yet again scored so highly in this area.

Liz Shea, patient representative on the Members Council says:  “Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust should feel very proud to have performed so well.  This is fantastic news, the Members Council are very impressed by the cleanliness of the hospitals within the Trust.”

Harold Trowbridge, Chairman of the independent Patient and Public Involvement Forums says:  “The Patient Forums have conducted various surveys and inspections both announced and unannounced on hospital premises and we’ve always been very impressed with the standard of cleanliness as well as being pleased with staff attitudes to both patients and members of the public and forum members.  In fact on the last visit we made I commented to the domestic staff that they should receive a gold award as the standards of cleanliness were so high.

Sheena Cumiskey, Chief Executive says: “We welcome the report from the Healthcare Commission and we are very appreciative of the positive comments and findings of both the members council and the Patient Forums.  Wrightington Wigan and Leigh will continue to use this as a building block to maintain and expand our hygiene standards for all our patients.”
