Newsdate: 24th October 2006

Leigh Informary celebrates it's Centenary

We are delighted to announce that Leigh Infirmary celebrated its 100th Birthday on Friday 27th October 2006. To mark this momentous occasion we orgsnised various celebrations around the day itself with the theme of past, present and future.

Patients and the general public of Leigh were invited to attend the hospital on 27th October 2006 to view the poster displays by staff and local schools on all the corridors of the Infirmary and at the entrance to all ward departments.  Staff were on hand dressed in costumes form each decade from the 1900’s up until present day to talk about Leigh Infirmary’s history past and present.

At 12 noon at the main entrance to Leigh Infirmary there was a special cake cutting ceremony with speeches by the Trust Chairman, Brian Strett and Minister for Health and MP for Leigh, Andy Burnham as well as a dedication by the hospital chaplain.

The are more images below that show the initial Foundation Stone Ceremony through to pictures taken this week of areas that still remain from the original hospital building. Scroll down the page to see all the images.
