New Non-Executive Directors for the Trust

News Date: 20th August 2007

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of two new non-executive Directors Geoffrey Bean and Robert Collinson.   Both appointments run for the period beginning 1st August 2007 until 31st July 2011.    All non-executive director appointments are made in accordance with the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments (OCPA) Code of Practice.

Geoffrey has worked for the past two years in an NHS supplier in Buckinghamshire and on moving back to the North West has decided to put into practice his desire to improve the NHS in the NW Region by joining Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust.  Geoffrey is a qualified accountant with strong financial experience at finance director level and has worked in a variety of customer focused complex businesses across a range of markets both nationally and internationally. He is currently working as Finance Director for a Bolton based business.

Geoffrey says: “I am looking forward to working in the Trust team to continue the improvements that have been made in what is a time of considerable change and challenge for the Trust and the whole NHS."

Robert is currently a Senior Law Lecturer in Higher Education.  He has been qualified as a solicitor for nearly twenty years and during that time has gained wide experience of providing practical legal advice on many aspects of the law of direct relevance to the work of an NHS Trust.  Robert has already gained experience of governance through his work as a councillor in local government and as non-executive director of a Housing Association.

Mr Les Higgins, Acting Chairman of the Trust says, “I would like to take this opportunity to say how pleased I am with these outstanding appointments and extend a warm welcome to Geoffrey and Robert our two new Non Executive Directors.  They will join our existing Non Execs who are Louise Barnes, Albert Mandall and Sue Turner and together we will continue to ensure that the Trust provides a range of comprehensive, efficient, high quality healthcare services to the people of Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh.”

All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointee’s political activity (if any declared) to be made public.
Geoffrey has declared no political activity in the last 5 years and holds no ministerial appointments.   In the last 5 years, Robert has obtained office as a Local Councillor and has stood as a candidate and canvassed on behalf of the Conservative party.
