Trust promotes Health and Safety Awareness

News Date: 6th June 2007

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust is committed to raising the profile of health and safety within the NHS and is hosting a Health & Safety Awareness Week commencing 11th June 2007 on all our hospital sites.

The aim of the week is to raise health and safety awareness amongst staff, and the general public.  This is part of a programme of work to mitigate risks that may result in serious untoward incidents. We will present a specific health and safety topic for discussion each day:

Day 1 - How staff, patients and visitors can report an incident
Day 2 - Advising staff on the correct methods for lifting, pushing and pulling (manual handling)
Day 3 - Violence and aggression against staff and patients
Day 4 - Slips, trips and falls within the hospital grounds
Day 5 - Needle stick injuries

John Buck, Trust Health and Safety Manager says: “The key message to be delivered is that Health and Safety is everyone’s responsibility.  This initiative will raise the profile of health and safety across the Trust and highlight the Trust’s policies and procedures.
