Trust Announces New Director Appointment

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust is delighted to announce that we have today appointed Mrs Gill Harris to the post of Director of Nursing & Patient Services. Gill was an exceptional and outstanding candidate who was appointed after a lengthy and rigorous selection process against a strong field. 


Gill is currently the Acting Director of Nursing and Operations for the Trust and has shown excellent commitment to patient quality and care whilst ensuring that the Trust met all of its targets and objectives. She will commence fully in her new role from 8th May.


Her career began as a specialist nurse at Addenbrookes NHS Trust, moving onto the Head of Nursing position at University Hospitals of North Staffordshire NHS trust before moving into general management.

She joined Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust as General Manager for the Division of Surgery in June 2004 and subsequently became the Trust’s Deputy Director of Operations. 

Gill says: “I am proud and delighted to have been appointed as Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust’s Director of Nursing. I am looking forward enormously to working and connecting with all the staff across the Trust to take forward the nursing and quality vision.”
Andrew  for quality, safety and service improvement.  The Director of Nursing & Patient Services will have overall responsibility for clinical governance and also Foster, Chief Executive says: "This is a very important appointment for the Trust because one my highest objectives is to have an organisation where quality and safety are just as important as performance and finance. In Gill, I know that I have someone who is fully committed to that objective and who has a superb track record of turning plans into achievements. I am delighted with the appointment and know that it will be very popular with staff."

The Director Nursing & Patient Services is a member of the Trust Board and is responsible to the Chief Executive.  She will provide clear leadership to the Trust’s Nursing and Midwifery workforce whilst contributing significantly to the Trust’s agenda and have operational responsibility for estates, facilities and patient relations.
