Royal Albert Edward Infirmary hosts an exclusive screening for children

Newsdate: 31st May 2006

Starlight Children’s Foundation is the leading charity in the UK granting wishes and providing hospital entertainment for seriously and terminally ill children.

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust are pleased to announce that the charity will be bringing a little more Starlight magic into even more sick children’s lives at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary by hosting an exclusive screening of the fun kids movie Zathura: A Space Adventure.

75 hospitals in the UK will be screening the film a week before the DVD release on the 26th June as part of a national campaign. Starlight works with many hospitals in the UK to provide entertainment and to brighten these children’s lives, distracting them from the pain, fear and isolation they are feeling.

Dr Martin Farrier, Consultant Paediatrician and Clinical Director for Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh commented: “It is clear that entertaining films have a major role in helping children in hospital, especially in alleviating pain and distress. They enhance the overall quality of life and relieve anxiety, especially those films introducing fun, humour and laughter. Laughter stimulates the right substances for recovery, both in the brain and body. Without doubt the work of Starlight makes a valuable contribution towards the treatment of seriously ill children.”
