Trust Launches Heartbeat Charity Appeal

Newsdate: 8th December 2009

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) is delighted to announce that it will be launching a new charity appeal on Tuesday 8th December 2009.  The “Heartbeat” appeal is being launched by Dr Naqvi, Consultant Cardiologist to further improve and enhance cardiology services for the public of Wigan and beyond.

WWL has already approved an investment of £1.5 million to enhance and improve the Coronary Care Unit, but Dr Naqvi has plans to raise as much money as possible to make the unit state-of-the-art and a centre of excellence. This will be his legacy to the local health community before he retires.  The intention is to create a full and comprehensive Coronary Care Unit to be co-located next to the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory.

Dr Naqvi says: “I am committed to ensuring that this appeal provides a cardiology service that is second to none in the country. I am asking the public of Wigan to help me in ensuring that we can provide the new unit with the best equipment that money can buy and deliver a first class service for our patients.
