Christopher Home Car Park: Temporary closure  due to delivery of Brand New MRI Scanner

Newsdate: 03 May 2013

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust will be taking delivery of a second brand new MRI scanner at Wigan Infirmary on Tuesday 7 May 2013.  The scanner will be operational from June 2013 and will provide much needed scanning capacity.

Provision of the new scanner means a number of benefits for patients. Not only will we be able to see patients more quickly, but as the machine is brand new and the best technology available the scan itself will be much faster.

However, the delivery of the MRI scanner requires a large crane and two articulated lorries to have space to access the department. This will require the car park in front of Christopher Home to be closed for approximately one day, from midnight on the 6 May until about 2.00pm on the 7 May.

Whilst the car park is closed, patients and visitors will be re-directed to Freckleton Street car park. There will also be limited disabled parking available near Pathology and on the main Wigan Infirmary car park near to A&E. The ambulance drop-off area in front of Christopher Home will be available for the use of ambulances and car users to drop people off. Waiting in this area will not be possible, and vehicles will have to move to alternative parking locations.  A temporary turning circle in place in front of Christopher Home will also be available to avoid congestion.

The car park and pedestrian pathway will be re-opened as soon as possible after the delivery of the MRI scanner is completed.
