The aim of the programme was to get local people back into local employment.  WWL has been working in partnership with Skills for Health, Job Centre Plus and Wigan and Leigh College to pilot the programme within the borough.

As one of the largest employers in the borough, this demonstrates the commitment of WWL to both the public health and the citizenship agendas.  The programme commenced last October and successful candidates attended a four week programme of study at Wigan and Leigh College.  This prepared them for their ten week placement within the Trust in both Clinical and Administration roles.

Seventeen candidates successfully completed the programme and 10 candidates have moved back into employment, seven of them are currently working in the Trust.  The remaining candidates are currently in the process of applying for jobs and it is envisaged they will be successful in securing employment within the next few weeks.

Robert Armstrong, Non-Executive Director of the Trust publicly thanked all parties involved for all their hard work, time and commitment, especially the candidates.

Robert Cragg, Deputy Director of Education and Organisational Development said, “I am delighted with the success of the programme and wish the candidates every success in their future careers.”

Future programmes are planned In order to build on this success and WWL will be running another programme in Autumn 2014.
