Organised by Wigan Council to champion excellent design and construction in the Borough, the Design awards celebrate their 10th year and are the platform for local projects to demonstrate high standards of building work and design.

“We are delighted the Hanover’s modern design and layout has been recognised at the Wigan Council Design Awards, the local benchmark for high quality building design,” says Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust Associate Director of Estates and Facilities, David Evans.

“The new Hanover is a vast improvement and one in which our dedicated staff now deliver patient care in a friendly and open environment. As well as being aesthetically pleasing, the building is constructed to the highest standards and has received widespread praise from staff, patients and visitors.”

The Wigan Council Design Awards reward building projects ranging from small domestic works to major commercial developments, which achieve high standards of construction, workmanship and customer satisfaction.

Building Excellence judges George Hollingsworth, Wigan Civic Trust; John O’Neill, chair of the Greenheart Partnership and students of Wigan and Leigh College commented positively on the refurbishment of the Hanover building.

Following the £6.8 million refurbishment, the Hanover Diagnostic and Treatment Centre opened in May 2013 and now treats an increasing number of patients during one visit urology, endoscopy and gynaecology appointments.

The Wigan Design Award is the latest achievement for the Hanover after winning first prize in the UK Building Better Healthcare award last November and earning outstanding comments following a Patient-led Assessment of the Care Environment (PLACE) inspection.

The Design Awards Ceremony was held at Wigan Cricket Club on Wednesday 19 February 2014.
