The open day takes place at Wigan Crematorium, in Lower Ince Cemetery

Andrew Bond, Bereavement Services Manager, said: “We wanted to hold an event to give people the chance to meet employees at the crematorium – everyone from office staff to grave diggers - and to answer some of the many questions we get asked on a daily basis about the burial and cremation process.

“This is also a chance for people to learn more about the history of the cemetery, with the World War One history walk revealing the stories behind some of the graves on site.”

General tours of the facility will be taking place every 30 minutes, from 10am-1pm. The history walk takes place at 11am. Strong footwear is essential.

The crematorium tours have restricted numbers so booking is essential. To book, find out more about the event or about any of the nine cemeteries managed by WLCT, contact the team on 01942 828 993 or visit
