WWL’s three hospitals offer a variety of volunteer positions, including Ward and Reception Desk Volunteers, as well as roles within Departments and Hospital Guides.

In addition, new volunteers are also required for two locations close to Wigan town centre - the WWL Eye Unit at Boston House and the outpatient services based at the Thomas Linacre Centre.

WWL Head of Public Engagement, Andrea Arkwright says: “Our volunteers find volunteering a great experience. You must be good at listening and want to help with patients, carers and the public.”

"We are asking for volunteers who live in the Wigan Borough and who can spare a minimum of half-a-day each week at any time between 8.30am and 4.30pm," says WWL Interim Voluntary Services Manager, Nadia Koriba.

Volunteers need to commit to their voluntary work for at least 6 months.

“Volunteers are an integral part of the care team, fulfilling a variety of crucial roles to improve the patient experience. Our 500 volunteers come from all walks of life, and represent the diversity of the communities we serve.”

Anyone wanting to volunteer or requiring more information should contact Nadia Koriba, Interim Voluntary Services Manager, at Wigan Infirmary. Tel 01942 82 2509; email volunteer@wwl.nhs.uk
