Wigan Midwife of the Year Award

Tracy Baybutt (centre) receives her Wigan Midwife of the Year bouquet from her midwifery colleagues at Wigan InfirmaryMidwives at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) celebrated The International Day of the Midwife by awarding the Wigan Midwife of the Year trophy to Tracy Baybutt.

Tracy, who works on the Delivery Suite at Wigan Infirmary, received her prize at a special ceremony organised to support The International Day of the Midwife, a worldwide day of action and solidarity to promote the vital work performed by midwives.

WWL Maternity Services Matron, Marie Cunliffe says: "Being named Wigan Midwife of the Year highlights the important, innovative and pioneering work being done by Tracy Baybutt and her colleagues. The award brings recognition for our An expectation of 20 Wigan Infirmary Midwives celebrate the International Day of the Midwifededicated team of midwifery professionals who provide exceptional services when delivering more than 3,000 babies each year.”

2014 has already been a remarkable year for Wigan’s midwives with WWL Maternity Support Workers Julie Middlehurst and Anne Allen named the Royal College of Midwifery ‘Maternity Support Workers of the Year’. 

“Wigan is proud to celebrate the International Day of the Midwife on 5 May each year. On this day, midwives all over the world take action to highlight the importance of midwives, and the contribution midwives make to the health of their nations.”
