Newsdate: 23 April 2015Cardiology and Respiratory Department

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) are very proud to announce that a new Cardio-Respiratory Department has been established at Leigh Infirmary. This is great news for patients as the Department is in refurbished buildings with a lot more space than previously available. It is also fitted out with state-of-the-art equipment.

The department includes a comfortable waiting room, a reception room, two Echocardiogram Laboratories, an Exercise laboratory, and a room for Holter Monitor fitting (this is a machine that continuously records the heart's rhythms) and Pacemaker analysis. There are also offices for staff and a staff room.

Dr Nayyar Naqvi, OBE, Consultant Cardiologist said “We will now be able to give a comprehensive, first class Cardiology service to our patients in the Leigh side of the Borough on their door step”.

WWL also provides Cardiology and Respiratory services at Wigan Infirmary and the Thomas Linacre Centre, and with the latest development at Leigh Infirmary, is striving to make access to these lifesaving services as easy as possible for all patients across the Borough.

The Wigan Infirmary Unit also saw a significant refurbishment and the addition of a second Catheter Laboratory in 2012, when £1.4m was invested.
