Andrew Foster to Support Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust

Newsdate: 20 January 2015

The WWL Board has agreed to Andrew Foster becoming interim Chief Executive at the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (HEFT) in Birmingham for six months.

HEFT is one of the largest Hospital Trusts in England. It includes Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Community Services, Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham Chest Clinic.

The secondment opportunity arose following the resignation of the previous HEFT Chief Executive in November 2014; since that time HEFT has been seeking assistance from high performing trusts as part of its Integrated Leadership Support and Resilience Programme.

Andrew Foster said, “This secondment is in line with the Dalton Review. Being asked to provide support to Heart of England is recognition of the success and high performance achieved by WWL over recent years”.

Both Trust Boards have approved Andrew’s secondment as interim Chief Executive for four days per week, for a maximum period of six months from mid-February 2015. WWL will also provide support to HEFT on areas including staff engagement, quality improvement and communications. Andrew will work with the existing HEFT Executive Team to identify and prioritise other areas for improvement.

During the secondment period, Robert Forster, currently Deputy Chief Executive at WWL will become Acting Chief Executive and will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Trust. The WWL Executive Team will continue to focus on remaining a high achieving organisation in the light of NHS austerity and challenging times ahead. Andrew will remain available to support the WWL Executive Team one day per week.
