Thank a Nurse

Newsdate: 18 May 2015

WWL celebrated our Nurses with a number of different events on 12 and 13 May 2015, as part of this year’s Nurses’ Day celebrations. The theme was ‘Thank a Nurse’, and that’s exactly what we did!

Chairman, Robert Armstrong, accompanied senior nurses on visits to wards and departments, personally thanking our nurses with cakes and cards.

Robert commented: "I don't need to wait till National Nurses Day - I say it at every opportunity I get. I think the nurses in our Trust do an amazing job and I thank you for the unique contribution you make to the lives of patients and their loved ones." Thank a Nurse special white board

As well as the Chairman’s visits, an information stand visited each of the hospital sites during 12 and 13 May. This included a special thank you board, which was available for patients, relatives, visitors and staff to write a message of thanks to our nursing staff.

Clare Thomas, Senior Nurse - Professional Practice and International Nurses Day Co-ordinator for the Trust said: “I’m really proud to be a nurse and International Nurses Day is an important date in the calendar for all nurses. It celebrates all the care nurses provide to patients, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Nurses Day 2015 and WWL is encouraging everyone to say “Thank You” to a nurse either in person or via our special thank you board.”

Pauline Law, Deputy Director of Nursing and Patient Services also took part in supporting International Nurses Day said:  “This day is a wonderful opportunity to reflect and celebrate our unique and invaluable contribution to patients’ health and wellbeing across the globe. It is also, for those of us who are a part of this privileged and special profession, an opportunity to be justifiably proud of what we do. I would like to extend my personal congratulations to all nurses across the Trust on this special day.”

Updates of the event were made available on WWL’s Facebook page and Tweets can be found by searching for the hashtag  #ThankANurse on Twitter. There are also a Facebook album documenting the day.
