Hydrotherapy Pool Opens at Wrightington Hospital

Newsdate: 30 November 2015

The new hydrotherapy pool was opened at Wrightington Hospital Friday, 27 November 2015, by Dr Chattopadhyay,
Rheumatology Consultant; whose work was recently recognised by the National Institute for Health Research who awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The pool will be used to treat patients with various musculo skeletal conditions that need help improving mobility and function. The pool which is maintained at between 34-35 degrees Celsius has many benefits as it eases pain, relaxes muscles, helps improve muscle strength, co-ordination, endurance and balance, as well as, improving circulation and generally boosting feelings of wellbeing, which aids recovery.

The hydrotherapy pool is a self-contained unit with its own changing rooms and showers. There are varied water depths including a seated area for exercising. This allows a variety of treatments. The pool can now be accessed by steps or hoist.

The pool was proudly funded in its entirety by Charitable Funds, with donations mainly coming from our patients, which is a testament to how passionate patients feel about Wrightington and the care that they have received.

Dr Chattopadhyay commented “The pool is a great addition to our already excellent Therapies Unit at Wrightington. Our team will now be able to provide even better care for our patients with musculo skeletal conditions”.
