WWL’s Fertility Unit Officially Opens!

Newsdate: 10 November 2015 Hewitt Fertility Centre Opening

WWL’s Fertility Unit was officially opened by the Mayor of West Lancashire, Cllr Nikki Hennessy, Friday, 6 November, with opening speeches by Phil Harris, Gynaecologist and Clinical Lead for the Unit and Chris White, Commercial Director of the Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust.

The new state of the art facility, which uses the very latest in fertility technology, was made possible by a partnership between WWL and The Hewitt Fertility Centre, part of Liverpool Women’s. The partnership is great news for patients as it combines elements of The Hewitt Fertility Centre’s expertise with WWL’s already extremely successful fertility services. The event welcomed guests from the Liverpool Women’s and colleagues from across the healthcare economy, as well as WWL staff and construction partners. Also in attendance were Wendy Stuart, Jane and Nik Stuart-Puttnam, as well as Marion Andrews, who have been key fundraising supporters of the unit. Wendy Stuart’s miracle ball raised a massive £18,915 last year, buying essential equipment to give more local parents the chance to experience the miracle of a child. Wendy’s first grandchild, Sebastian, was born with the help of the WWL fertility team in 2012.

The building was recently commended in the Commercial Category of the West Lancashire Design Awards 2015 and offers patients a warm and welcoming environment to receive their care. The Unit also benefits from being conveniently placed, just off junction 27 of the M6, as well as, having its own car park.

Mr Phil Harris, Consultant Gynaecologist and Clinical Lead for Fertility Services, said “We are thrilled to be officially opening our new unit, where our patients can expect the highest quality of care and support at every stage of their treatment. We have always offered our patients a highly personalised service, every fertility journey is unique and we tailor care to suit each patient’s needs. With our new, purpose built, unit the environment is as good as our service!”

Dr Christopher White, Commercial Director at The Hewitt Fertility Centre, said: “This new partnership means that even more people across the North West and beyond will have access to world class fertility services offering success rates that are amongst the very best internationally. The Hewitt Centre and the new WWL Hewitt Fertility Partnership are the only services in the North West where all patients have the benefit of ‘time lapse’ to select the best embryo. The time lapse technique has been shown to improve pregnancy rates and reduce miscarriages.”
