Hospital Receives Generous Donation from Local Bowling League

Newsdate: 4 April 2016 Jean Ramsdale and Ann Gaskell

At WWL, we were delighted to receive a very generous donation to our dementia services by the Wigan ladies Church Unity Bowling League.

Ann Gaskell, the chairperson of the league, presented a cheque for £150 to WWL Lead Nurse for Older Persons/Dementia, Jean Ramsdale, at a recent league committee meeting held on Wednesday 23 March. The meeting was held at St Mary’s Church Hall, Warrington Road, Lower Ince.

Also at the presentation was Christine Swann, Executive Assistant and a Dementia Champion at our Trust. The WWL Dementia Champions are trained volunteers who encourage others to make a positive difference to our patients living with dementia.

The league had raised the money through various collections held over the past year and had nominated local dementia services as their chosen cause to donate to for 2016.

The money will be paid into the Trust’s new fund “Minds and Memories”. WWL will subsequently use the money raised by the league to buy Memory Boxes for our dementia patients. Memory Boxes are used to encourage interaction and communication for patients with dementia on our wards.

Jean Ramsdale was thrilled to accept the donation on behalf of our Trust. She said, “I would like to thank Ann and the members of the Bowling League for very generously raising this money for our services. The donation will certainly help us to improve the already-excellent service we provide. We will use this money to benefit our dementia patients through the purchase of Memory Boxes which provide them with vital support.”
