Trust Dementia Fund Benefits from Kind Donation

Newsdate: 24 August 2016 Dementia Fund Donation

WWL was delighted to receive a very generous donation from a local resident to our Minds and Memory Fund on Wednesday 17 August.

WWL’s Minds and Memory Fund is one of eight ring-fenced funds that exist under the banner of the Trust’s dedicated charity, Three Wishes. The decision to have the 8 ring-fenced funds within the charity was taken to ensure that patients and the public had greater access to donate to the areas and services they wished. Our Minds and Memory Fund relates specifically to services committed to old people and dementia patients.

Patricia Hesketh, who lives in Golborne, raised a hugely welcome £586 for our charity, during her efforts completing the Great Manchester Run. The event was held on Sunday 28 May. Before the event, Patricia sought sponsorship from her family and friends and it was through this that she secured the funds.

In the event, Patricia completed the 10KM course in an hour, an impressive time. She presented the money to Jean Ramsdale, WWL’s Dementia Lead Nurse.

A keen runner, this was not the first time that Patricia had used her hobby to donate to a charitable cause. Previously, she had completed the Liverpool half marathon to raise money for Wigan and Leigh Hospice. Her decision to raise money for our charity was actually made at a Northern Soul-themed fundraising event, organised by a member of our staff on Monday 15 February.

Gerrard Mannion, who works at the Eye Unit at Boston House, organised the event. Patricia met him at the event and decided there and then to raise money for our charity. Gerard is a Dementia Champion at our Trust and the night, held at Stubshaw Cross Labour Club, was used to raise money for the Dementia Fund, which preceded our Minds and Memory Fund. The event was such a success that it has been decided that it will be organised annually, with proceeds going towards our Minds and Memory Fund.

Patricia is very pleased to be able to present the donation to our Trust. She said, “It feels great to be able to raise money for another worthy charity. It’s good to be able to give something back.”

Jean Ramsdale, WWL Dementia Lead Nurse, said, “We are always grateful to receive donations to our Minds and Memory Fund. The money we receive can go towards worthwhile initiatives to improve the service that we provide to our patients. On behalf of my team, I would like to give tremendous thanks to Patricia for giving us this wonderful donation.”
