Join Our Day of Wishes!

Newsdate: 6 July 2016

Take a behind-the-scenes tour of our new impressive barn theatre complex, challenge consultants in a game of giant operation, lean how the hydrotherapy pool helps keep our patients mobile and so much more during our fantastic open day.

On Saturday 24 September we are throwing the doors open to our new Orthopaedic Unit on the Wrightington site from 12pm until 4pm.

Come and join us for a fun filled afternoon. The event is free and hosted by Wish FM, is guaranteed to be a great day for all the family.

We have a lot to celebrate and show you!

You can take part in interactive demonstrations, showing how new techniques have changed the way surgery is carried out today.

There will also be a variety of information stalls for you to browse, including a stall all about the many varied and interesting careers available in the NHS.

The Wish FM crew will be at hand for the whole event to meet you and provide entertainment. Including Wigan’s budding new talent, who will be delivering live music performances on the day.

It’s hoped that you will be able to find time to grab a hot cup of steaming tea or coffee and relax in the beautiful surroundings of the Wrightington site. There are going to be lots of great stalls and exhibitions, with something for everyone; from the army field hospital tent to a stunning collection of vintage cars.

The day will also mark the launch of the Wrightington Wish Fund. All monies raised will go towards improving our patients’ experiences whilst in hospital. Some of the transformative pieces of equipment we have fundraised for in the past include specially designed chairs, movement analysis cameras and anti-gravity machines all of aid and speed up our patients’ recovery.

The inaugural sponsored Wish Walk in aid of the Wrightington Wish Fund will take part on the open day, in the grounds of Wrightington hospital.

Mr Peter Kay, Orthopaedic Surgeon at WWL, said: “It promises to be a fun-packed day, with activities to keep the whole family entertained.

“It’s a great chance for our patients, their relatives and everyone else to get a good look behind the scenes at their specialist orthopaedic hospital. They can speak to some of our fantastic consultant surgeons and learn about the great work that they do.

“I’m very much looking forward to it, and I would encourage everyone to come along and enjoy what should be a really good event.”
