WWL to launch new Health Information System

Newsdate: 7 June 2016

WWL NHS Foundation Trust will be launching a new Health Information System (HIS) across the 5 sites: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, Wrightington Hospital, Leigh Infirmary, Thomas Linacre Centre and Boston House. #HISGoLive is planned for 28 June 2016.

The new system will help to support the delivery of safer, faster, more efficient care for patients. It will reduce the use of paper and ensure that patient notes are always available. The system can support doctors and nurses in their care of patients and give them more time to spend with patients.

HIS will transform care by allowing a patient’s record to be accessed by clinicians involved in their care regardless of location, for example, the hospital or GP surgery.

In the future, HIS offers the scope to make healthcare delivery more empowering for patients by allowing them to log on and view their own health records via a portal.

Excited about the prospects HIS offers, Deputy Medical Director, Dr Martin Farrier says,

“Rapid access to information using the phone in my pocket is my expectation. Technology has changed our experience of the world around us. Healthcare has been slow to adapt to these changes. Healthcare needed safe systems that share vast vaults of information. We are starting up just such a system, and it has the power to change healthcare in the same way as the phone in my pocket changed my expectations of the world.”

Chief Executive Andrew Foster says,

“The HIS project is one of the biggest initiatives the Trust has undertaken in recent times and it will put WWL at the forefront of modern healthcare delivery. We chose to partner with Allscripts, which is a leading supplier of healthcare solutions and has been used by Salford Royal and Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospitals for a few years, and University Hospital of South Manchester will use it shortly after WWL. The Allscripts Sunrise solution fits perfectly with WWL’s mission to be safe, effective and caring and put the patient at the centre of everything we do.”

The entire Trust is coming together to launch the new system safely and smoothly, ensuring appropriate support to reduce delays in your care.

However, because of the scale of the project we expect the first few weeks following #HISGoLive to be very intense. We therefore request your patience and consideration during this period to help us serve you better.
