WWL Fertility Research Team Wins Award

Newsdate: 21 November 2016

We are thrilled to announce that WWL’s Fertility Research Team, based at Wrightington Hospital, won the Best Debut award from the Greater Manchester Clinical Research Awards held on 17 November 2016.

The award centred on the work that The Fertility Research Team has done through a variety of clinical research trials they have participated in. One such trial focused on testing a new medical device that is hoped will increase the success rate of Intra-uterine Insemination. The goal of these trials is to find new and more effective treatments that will serve to benefit the clients seeking the assistance of the Fertility Fusion Clinic.

The award also acknowledges the collaborations between the team, other departments at WWL and external international organisations which aim to improve the chances of a successful pregnancy.

Mr Phillip Harris, Consultant, Gynaecologist and Clinical Lead for Fertility Fusion at Wrightington Hospital said, “The Team is committed to innovation and improving fertility care. Our aim is to make treatments less complex and more successful for clients. We are honoured to have won this award and to have our work recognised.”

In addition to the win by the Fertility Research Team, two other members of the WWL staff were recognised at the awards. Professor Kumar, ENT Consultant and Research Network Lead in ENT for the Greater Manchester Clinical Research Network was runner up for the Outstanding Contribution Award. Professor Kumar was shortlisted for his work on ENT clinical trials and the outstanding results he has achieved through full engagement with his clinical team and supporting clinical services.

Linzi Heaton, Clinical Research Administrative Assistant, was runner up in the category of Research Administrator of the year. She received additional recognition with a special award for Outstanding Achievement going above and beyond the call of duty for her work assisting with clinical research trials and studies.

The Greater Manchester Clinical Research Awards recognise the region’s hard-working and high-achieving researchers, research teams, research and development departments and other research support functions.
