WWL Appointments

Wrightington Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) is delighted to announce Robert Armstrong will serve a further 3 years in the role of Chairman.

Robert has held the role of Chairman since November 2014. At the Council of Governor’s meeting on 25 January, it was agreed to extend Robert’s tenure. This further demonstrates his on-going commitment to the Trust and the excellent work he has done during his time in the role.

Of his appointment Robert said, “It is a real honour to have been re-appointed as Chairman. I have really valued my time in this role over the last few years. I feel that there are still so many things that I want to do to support the Trust Board, our Governors, our staff and the all those who use the services here at WWL. I’d like to say thank you to the Governors for their expression of confidence in me, and thanks to all the hard working staff at WWL for making my role as Chairman so rewarding.”

In other appointment news, Dr Sanjay Arya, Consultant Cardiologist and currently joint Medical Director has been appointed Medical Director to commence on 1 April 2017. Until that time he will continue in his role of joint Medical Director alongside his colleague Mr Jawad Husain.

As Medical Director, Sanjay will be a key member of the Board of Directors and will be the professional lead for all doctors in the Trust. His dedication to the Trust has always been apparent since he joined WWL as a Consultant Cardiologist in 2000.

On the news of his appointment, Sanjay said, “I am thrilled to have been appointed as Medical Director and to be joining the Executive Team. I am ready to face the challenges this very important role will bring. My immediate priority will be around the well-being of our wonderful staff, who have shown true dedication and compassion through some particularly hard months. My other priority will be to support our continuing improvement journey and the determination to provide safe, effective, high quality care and a great patient experience.”

Finally, Jawad Husain, currently joint Medical Director will take over the role of Responsible Officer (RO) when the new financial year begins on the 1 April 2017. As Responsible Officer, Jawad will play a crucial role in helping to improve and maintain the quality and safety of our patient care at WWL.
