Maternity Team hold awards for International Day of the Midwife 2018

As part of their celebrations of International Day of the Midwife, Maternity Ward staff at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary held an informal awards ceremony for staff.

Welcoming staff to the event, Sue Orchard, Head of Midwifery for Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, said; “We all love our jobs and everybody, from support staff to midwives, do such an amazing job of looking after parents, their babies and families.

“There’s nothing nicer than getting nominations and commendations from your own colleagues and the reasoning behind them have been really touching to read.”

Awarding third year student, Danielle Irving, Student Midwife of the Year, Sue said: “Danielle is always enthusiastic to learn and relishes the opportunity to develop. Her positivity and passion for midwifery, and for the women she looks after, means she will be a real asset to the midwifery profession.”

Jo Hoolin, Maternity Ward Clerk, was awarded Maternity Support Worker of the Year. Sue said; “This unit isn’t just about the midwives, we’re a team and everyone who works on this unit is valued just as much as the other. Jo is a lovely person and continually goes out of her way to help others. She is friendly, polite, cheerful and always makes people smile with her positive nature.”

Finally, Joanne Kilbride, was named Midwife of The Year. Awarding Joanne, Sue said: “Joanne is caring, compassionate and always has a smile on her face – nothing is too much trouble. “She continually supports new staff members and shares her vast wealth of knowledge with students, going out of her way to help.”
