Rainbow Staff Going the Extra Mile

Newsdate: 4 May 2018

Kind-hearted staff from Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust’s Rainbow Ward, are putting their best feet forward and organising a sponsored 20 mile pier-to-pier walk, to raise money for a new ‘teen zone’.

The walk, which will take place on Saturday 11th August, will see ward staff, along with their friends and family, trekking from Wigan Pier to Southport Pier with the aim of raising £1000. All the money raised will go towards helping to fill the new 'teen zone' on Rainbow Ward with items such as a TV, jukebox, games consoles, and other therapeutic activities.

Staff Nurse, Jodie Southern said: “At the minute, the ward has a play room where all the children can go, it has a soft play area and a couple of PlayStations, but that’s mainly for the younger children.”

“Teenagers would like somewhere they can retreat and relax on their own and it will give them somewhere to have peace and quiet and have a chat amongst themselves.”

“We have spoken to some of the patients to identify what they would like to see in there and we have already allocated a space for the new area.”
