School Girl to Shave Hair for Three Wishes

Newsdate: 6 April 2018

A local Wigan school girl is aiming to raise an incredible £2000 for Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust’s Three Wishes Charity, by taking part in a head shave this weekend.

Thirteen year old Lucy Gadsby, a year 8 Deanery High School pupil and World JetSki Champion, has decided to brave the shave to raise money for WWL’s Three Wishes Charity, specifically the Cancer Care Unit at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, Wigan.

Lucy’s hair will not go to waste and will kindly be donated to the Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs free of charge to children and young adults that have sadly lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.

Lucy said: “I want to give my hair to someone who doesn’t have the privilege to have hair, mine will grow back and theirs may not. I am doing this because my Grandad suffered with cancer and some of my friends and their families have also been touched by cancer”.

Lucy continued: “I originally set a target to raise £1000 but thanks to everyone’s generosity the target was smashed. Due to the amazing support I have received so far, I am hoping to raise double that”.

Janet Pennington, Three Wishes Fundraising Manager said: “Lucy will be shaving off her hair at Round 1 of the British JetSki Championships in Sutton Coldfield the weekend of 7th / 8th April. She is a wonderful example of a dedicated and thoughtful young person, and her fundraising efforts are greatly appreciated and will make a huge difference to the patients treated at the Cancer Care Centre at Wigan Infirmary”.
