WWL staff to ‘Wear It Red’ this Valentine’s for Three Wishes

Newsdate: 9 February 2018

Staff, patients and visitors across all of Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust’s sites are being invited to ‘Wear It Red’ this Valentine’s Day to raise money for the Trust’s Three Wishes Charity.

Instead of the usual gifts, flowers and chocolates, the Charity is asking for people to spread the love by wearing red and making a donation to its Heart and Lungs Fund, which supports Cardiology and Respiratory services across WWL.

Janet Pennington, Fundraising Manager says: “Our ‘Wear It Red Day’ is a new initiative for the Three Wishes Charity and we hope that everyone will embrace it and help us raise vital funds. The money raised will go to our ‘Heart and Lungs Fund’ within Three Wishes, which supports cardiology and respiratory services across the borough. Over the past few years the public have helped to raise half a million pounds for our new Cardiac Cath Lab extension, so we know this is a cause close to the ‘hearts’ of local people. Donations can be made at any of our General Offices which are located on the Wigan, Thomas Linacre, Leigh and Wrightington hospital sites, or you can make a donation by texting “HLRF01 £1” to 70070 changing the amount if you wish to increase your donation (texts are charged at standard rate plus donation)”.

Carolyn Dereszkiewicz, Head of Nursing for Scheduled Care says: “The Trust is committed to supporting healthy lifestyle choices for our patients, relatives and staff. Our ‘Wear it Red Day’ will focus on giving advice on health and wellbeing for the prevention of heart disease by providing information on diet, exercise and lifestyle choices throughout the day on the wards, departments and around the hospital. We are also hoping to raise funds during this event to support patients and their families by purchasing new equipment to further improve the patient environment”.
