Complex Needs Service

This is a service for Adults with Learning Disabilities or memory problems

It is well documented that people with learning disabilities have an increased risk of hearing impairment. If a patient with significant hearing loss is denied hearing aid provision, appropriate hearing rehabilitation and hearing therapy, it is likely to result in barriers to communication and can often be detrimental to the patient’s long-term care in terms of independence, confidence, speech and language abilities.

The Audiology team identified a need for this Service within the Wigan and Leigh area, and in response developed the Complex Needs service.

How long will I have to wait?
New referrals are generally seen within four weeks but existing patients may be seen sooner depending on their needs.

How do I make an appointment?
Health Professionals, relatives, friends and carers of a patient who they suspect has a hearing problem or are having difficulties with their current hearing aid prescription can contact the department by telephone or email in order to discuss their concerns. A member of the Audiology Department will advise on appropriate action to be taken.

More information, referral criteria and a referral form is available in the information pack below or can be obtained by contacting the Audiology Department.
