Background

Asim is a fellowship trained Consultant Hip Surgeon with an elective practice based at the Centre of Hip Surgery, Wrightington Hospital and a trauma practice at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan. He is also an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Salford.

The majority of his practice involves hip surgery, with a special interest in arthroscopic hip surgery, as well as hip replacement surgery, both primary and revision.

He gained his medical degree from the University of Manchester in 2003, graduating with Honours. He also gained a first class honours degree in Pathological Science during which he undertook research into gene therapy for back pain. He was awarded prizes for his performance in his undergraduate exams.

His specialty training in Orthopaedics in the North West Deanery led to the award of the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Trauma and Orthopaedics) in 2012. A large proportion of his training was at Wrightington Hospital, and he completed a Young Adult Fellowship during his final year of training at Wrightington Hospital. He was subsequently appointed as a Consultant in 2014.

During his training he was awarded a BOA travelling fellowship which allowed him to visit the Steadman and the Mayo Clinic in the USA to gain further exposure to the latest techniques in hip arthroscopy and hip preservation.

He has a keen interest in research and has been awarded research grants by the British Orthopaedic Association. Current research projects include work into the biomechanics of hip replacements and the mechanisms of failure of metal on metal hip replacements. He has published book chapters and articles in peer reviewed journals in the field of hip surgery.
