Trust Library Service

The libraries at Wrightington Wigan and Leigh hold a diverse range of resources relating to medicine, nursing, midwifery, health care, NHS policy and management.

We are a multi-disciplinary and multi-professional service offering assistance to all staff and students at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.

Services and Resources

NHS OpenAthens
The majority of our electronic resources are accessible with NHS OpenAthens accounts.  Please speak to a member of the library team about NHS Open Athens and passwords for other e-resources.

Electronic Journals
Electronic journals are available on and off site 24/7.  The library provides access to over 2,000 full text journals via NHS OpenAthens.

Electronic Books
Over 200 e-books have been purchased for WW&L staff.  In addition access to e-books which are not part of our collection can be requested on demand through our Patron Driven Acquisition service.

Online resources
The library facilitates access to NHS Evidence and other key healthcare databases including, UpToDate, Medline, Embase, British Nursing Index, CINAHL,  PsycINFO, Cochrane Library, HMIC (Health Management) and AMED (Allied Health).

Enquiry Services
We are here to help you get the most out of the Trust Library Service and save you time. Please ask our staff for help with any information enquiry ranging from how to find a book to accessing information resources. 

Literature Searches
If you have papers or reports that you would like to find, the library service offers a literature searching service where qualified and trained librarians will search through relevant resources to help find what you need.

Clinical Enquiry
The Trust Library Service can carry out literature searches on your behalf to find evidence-based information to
support patient care, research, audit, service development, etc. The results of a search will be a list of bibliographic references which we will email to you.

Management Decision Making
The Trust Library Service is also here to support clinical and non-clinical staff with their decision making and we can carry out literature searches and/or provide access to resources that will support your managerial decisions. 

Current Awareness Services 
The Trust Library Service offers a number of alerting services to help keep you up to date with the latest published information in your specialty or field of interest.  The service and bulletins cover both clinical and non-clinical
subject areas.
