Becoming a Volunteer

Our Volunteers sat at the Volunteer DeskBefore you can begin volunteering with us, you must complete our application process. First of all, you will need to complete our application form. Please contact our Voluntary Services on 01942 822 509 or at for an application form.

Volunteering is a commitment, so please ensure that you can commit to at least six months of voluntary work before applying.

You will then be invited to attend an interview. Following your interview, we will request at least two references from the referees provided on your form, and complete an Occupational Health check, and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for ward-based roles.

Once we have received satisfactory references and completed the necessary checks, we will contact you to arrange a date for you to attend our Volunteers’ General Induction.
Following this session, we will arrange your placement, where you will be given a Local Induction. As we must complete a number of checks and provide training before you can start volunteering, please be aware that the entire process can take up to two months or longer if you do not provide all the necessary documentation.

If your application is unsuccessful, please wait six months before reapplying.

Training for our volunteers
We want our volunteers to fulfil their potential and make a difference to our patients and staff, which is why our training programme is so important. In addition to our General and Local Induction sessions, all volunteers receive annual mandatory training by completing our training booklet or e-learning programme in the following areas: Information Governance, Health and Safety Risk Management, Infection Control, Fire Safety, Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Major Incidence. For positions that require additional training, such as our Dementia Champion Volunteer role, we provide specific training and support in these areas.
