Eye health service moves to new location

13 September

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust will move their Diabetic Retinopathy services to a new location next month.

From Monday, 2nd October, the Trust’s Ophthalmology team will move the diabetic eye screening service from The Galleries Shopping Centre in the town centre to Suite 4 of the Thomas Linacre Outpatient Centre on Parson’s Walk.

The new location will offer improved patient access, especially for those with poor mobility or using hospital transport, and will open up the opportunity for patients to be seen up until 6pm.

Yuen Lambert, Unit Lead for Diabetic Retinopathy said: “The move to the Thomas Linacre Outpatient Centre will have several benefits for our patients.

“In addition to being a modern outpatient unit there is ample parking directly outside the building to benefit patients with mobility issues and our portering service will be on hand to assist wheelchair dependent patients.

Staff at TLC also have access to online ambulance booking for patients who rely on hospital transport to return home.”

Until 15th September, patients and carers will be offered the opportunity to complete a short questionnaire regarding the service move and members of staff will be happy to listen to any comments or questions ahead of the move.
