Truckloads of help from depot donation

Newsdate 19 November 18

Over £4500 has been donated by the Haydock Sainsbury’s depot after it chose Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust’s Three Wishes as its charity of the year.

After being nominated by a member of the team, the Three Wishes Cancer Care Fund was chosen over many other charities to become the depot’s cause.

From raffles and bake sales to taking part in the Tough Mudder challenge the staff have thrown themselves fully behind the fundraising efforts.

Staff even took part in a Tour de Depot, involving colleagues from across the country, which saw members of the Haydock depot team cycling 83 miles from their base to the Sherburn Depot to raise money towards the donation.

Fundraising Manager, Janet Pennington, couldn’t thank the staff enough for their efforts saying: “It’s just incredible; it’s not just the money but the time and resources. The staff from the depot have been so committed and enthusiastic. It’s absolutely amazing.”

Accepting the cheque was Janet Irvine, Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse, who said: “It’s precious money, and people have put a lot of effort into raising it. Our charities wouldn’t exist if people didn’t fundraise like they do.
“This money will make a massive difference to so many people, I think cancer touches everybody in some way.”

Sandra Fairhurst, Communications Co-ordinator, and Joanne Millett, Finance Support were in attendance to present the cheque, and were crucial in facilitating the fundraising.

Joanne and Sandra wanted to share a special message with everyone who had helped the depot to achieve the amazing donation. “We’d like to thank everyone who’s contributed, from being involved in the fundraising to even buying a raffle ticket. It all makes a massive difference.”

Whilst the donation may be a huge sum, totalling at £4665, it isn’t planned as the final one with Sandra planning more events as the fundraising enters its second year: “We’ve got some more to come and we’ve still got some plans in place. We’ve already started planning for Christmas!”
