Celebrating five years of 7 day working at WWL

Newsdate: 18 October 2018

The Macmillan Supportive and Palliative Care Team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust are pleased to be celebrating five years of 7-day-working.

The Palliative Care team supports patients with life limiting illnesses within the hospital environment by helping manage their pain and other symptoms, and support their families and carers with any worries or concerns, 365 days a year.

And as part of an additional project funded by Macmillan, the team has been able to recruit more nurse specialists to enhance the support which is available at weekends and Bank Holidays from 1 October 2018.

“We feel patients should be able to access palliative care at the weekends,” said Janette Sanders, Team Leader in Supportive Care.

Jenny Wiseman, Consultant in Palliative Medicine said: “The recruitment of the new Macmillan nurse specialist is very exciting, as we are expanding our service to offer more support at weekends and bank holidays”.

The Team celebrated the anniversary by handing out cake and chocolate to patients and their relatives. There was also a board displaying pictures of the team and information on what their future ambitions are.
