Liverpool Football Club visit to Rainbow Ward

A very special guest from Liverpool Football Club paid a visit to Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.

The LFC Official Mascot, Mighty Red, alongside representatives from the club’s Corporate Responsibility Team, visited the Trust’s Maternity, Neonatal and Rainbow Wards, armed with goodies for parents, babies and children currently being treated at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.

Might Red meets a family on our Rainbow Ward

Mighty Red posed for pictures with children, signed autographs and played with the young patients and staff all in the hopes of spreading a little bit of cheer this holiday season. He even had a bit of a kick about on Rainbow Ward with one lucky young fan.

Emma Careless from Liverpool Football Club said: “It was our pleasure to have been given the opportunity to visit to Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust with Mighty Red.

“Being able to create new experiences for the children and their families has been wonderful, Mighty Red has certainly received plenty of smiles.

“Thank you to all the staff for welcoming us to your ward and for all the fantastic work you do.”

And one lucky new dad and lifelong Liverpool fan, who had missed his team’s 5-2 win over Everton due to his wife going into labour the same night, was made up to receive a Liverpool FC rubber duck, signed team photograph and baby bath book for his newborn daughter.

Matron for Child Health, Ann Carey said; “We’re really grateful to the team from LFC for giving up their time to come and see the children and families on each of the departments.

“The children were so excited to meet Mighty Red and will certainly take away memories to last a lifetime.”
