Cardiology Consultant Elected as Chair of the British International Doctors Association

Dr Ashish Dhawan, Consultant Cardiologist at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) has been elected to the prestigious position of Chair of the British International Doctors Association (BIDA), the organisation for Doctor of International origin working in the UK.

Established more than 45 years ago, BIDA gives a voice and platform to represent the welfare of all international Doctors, with emphasis on equality and fairness, with the Wigan Division boasting the largest number of members made up of Wigan Borough Clinical Commissioning Group GPs and WWL Consultants.

Speaking about his election to the position, Dr Dhawan said:

“I feel proud and delighted to have been elected Chairman of British International Doctors Association. I will be officially taking over this role in the next few weeks.

“The overriding ethos of our organisation is equality and fairness which is very much in line with WWL’s vision. The BIDA has many years of sharing a positive and productive relationship with WWL that I hope to carry forward and expand further.”

WWL Chief Executive, Silas Nicholls said: “I was delighted to hear the news that Dr Dhawan is the new Chairman of BIDA, I’m sure his expertise and passion for healthcare will only continue the huge contribution he provides.
