Volunteering to Make a Difference

Are you passionate about helping people and making a difference?

K Storey hand massagesWrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust may be the place for you.

Volunteering is an enriching and rewarding experience, helping to improve the lives of others and giving something back to the community. It also provides volunteers with the opportunity to meet new people and make friends, whilst gaining new experiences and skills. Our team of 300 volunteers are an invaluable asset to our Trust.

They freely dedicate their time and commitment to helping support our patients and healthcare professionals. Become a volunteer.

Please be aware that volunteering is not work experience. Our volunteers do not carry out or shadow any clinical work, or gain any hands-on care experience.

Volunteering is a commitment, so please ensure that you can commit to at least 100 hours of volunteering before applying.

Volunteer at our Trust
Our aim is the continuous improvement of services and facilities for patients, staff and visitors.

In order to meet our aims we channel our efforts into five guiding principles. These five principles underpin every aspect of our work both within the Trust and within the community as a whole.

In addition to our guiding principles, our mission statement is clear "our patients are at the heart of everything we do".

Our Guiding principles
The principles are:

  • Provide effective, responsive services of high quality

  • Ensure that services are integrated and co-ordinated

  • Ensure that the staff feel valued and to make the best use of their abilities

  • Use our resources efficiently

  • Make our services locally accessible as far as possible

Our vision
To make a positive difference to people’s lives

Our values
Safe, effective & caring

Our behaviours
Collaborative, forward thinking, accountable, compassionate & respectful

Our principles and values underpin every aspect of our work across the Trust. Our volunteers help us to achieve our vision by providing valuable support to our patients and healthcare professionals.
