At WWL we have midwives working in the community, two antenatal clinics, an obstetric led Maternity Unit and offer a full home birth service. We are a friendly Maternity Unit offering choice and information to support you and your family to make decisions regarding your care.

Triage 

Please call the unit to discuss any concerns and we will advise you if you need to attend.  Please have your pregnancy notes available, if possible, when you call.

*Please remember that 999 may be more appropriate in certain circumstances such as heavy bleeding or advanced labour.*

When to contact Triage - the below list is not exhasutive so please call with concerns even if they are not listed.

  • Reduced Fetal Movements - Click here for more information
  • If you think you are in labour - Click here and here for more information
  • If you think your waters have broken
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Headaches and / or visual disturbances
  • You have itchy hands or feet
  • Sharp continuous abdominal pain
  • Constant vomiting
  • If you need advice about a pre existing medical condition
  • For assessment that cannot be provided by your Community Midwife
  • Postnatal concerns such as wound care or feeling unwell
 

Please consider using some of the following services if you have a concern that is not related to your pregnancy:

GP – Your GP can be accessed for a range of non-urgent services. You should see your GP for advice as they are better placed to help with these problems. For example, chest/urine/ear infection, skin complaints etc.

Walk in Centre – If your GP is closed or you cannot get an appointment then you can visit a Walk in Centre. You can visit a Walk in Centre for any general illness or concern for which you may have visited your GP. Walk in Centre’s can be accessed by anyone and have more flexible opening hours.
