After completing qualifications in High School, Ellie Wright, has joined WWL, alongside her studies at Runshaw College, where she is studying Health and Social care to help with her Midwifery career.

After several letters and a number of rigorous interviews, Ellie has been offered a place at Edge Hill University, on her course for September 2022 and cannot wait to get started, especially after gaining experience on the Maternity Ward at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary as a ‘Caremaker’.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, WWL launched the programme to enable members of the public to join the Trust to help support staff who had to be redeployed into different departments.

“I jumped at the chance and was thrilled when WWL offered me a place on the programme. As a Caremaker, I could provide care to patients without being clinically trained.

“You can probably imagine how happy I was when I was told I’d be helping on the Maternity Ward.

“Every shift, I have learnt something new and it’s only served to prove how much I want to be a Midwife.

“My colleagues had years of experience and they taught me about the different aspects of high quality care for patients, from the initial triage, to delivery and maternity ward stays.”

When asked what the inspiration for following her dream is, Ellie added: “I’ve spent many hours glued to the TV when One Born Every Minute and Call the Midwife are on and I’m amazed by the wonder of bringing new life into the world.

“My Health and Social care course at Runshaw College has made me realise just how much I want to provide support to people, especially for women during and after their pregnancies.

“I know that I will remember seeing my first baby being born forever!

“I am amazed by the wonder of bringing new life into the world, as well as supporting ladies both during and after their pregnancy.” said Ellie.

“The experience I had at college confirmed my dream to get a job within the NHS.”
