Sushmita is dual accredited in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine. She trained as a Specialist Registrar in teaching hospitals and district general hospitals in Sheffield and completed her training at Manchester Royal Infirmary. She was appointed as a Consultant at WWL in 2004. Sushmita works in out-patient clinics, as well as, the emergency floor and Medical Assessment Unit at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary site.

Since being appointed Sushmita has led in the development of guidelines for the management of diabetes and endocrine emergencies and has taken part in several audits aiming to improve the quality of care provided to patients with diabetes both in the in-patient and out-patient setting.

Sushmita is actively involved in teaching and training. She is currently a College Tutor for core medical trainees, Undergraduate Portfolio Tutor and Problem Based Learning Tutor for Manchester medical students. She is a member of the speciality question group for diabetes and endocrinology for the Royal College of Physicians contributing questions for the MRCP examination and a PACES examiner. She holds a PGMEC in work based medical education.
