Vital supplies continue to be delivered to refugee centres in Ukraine, with Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) recently helping to deliver medical equipment and food provisions through the Archdiocese of Liverpool’s #Liverpool4Ukraine appeal.
Funded by donations made by the public to the #Liverpool4Ukraine appeal, WWL has provided £10,000 worth of medical trauma equipment, including bandages, wound dressings, cleaning products, trauma tourniquets and high-performance batteries, as well as non-perishable food and drink, such as tea, coffee, soup and noodles.
The supplies, which left for the Ukraine border on Friday 22nd July, were delivered by volunteer drivers from the Archdiocese of Liverpool and Ashton-in-Makerfield-based construction company Greenmount Projects Ltd, whose Chief Executive, Mike Sharkey was part of the team.
Speaking about WWL’s involvement, which was facilitated by NHS Supply Chain, WWL’s Chief Finance Officer, Ian Boyle spoke about the importance of continually helping those in need, and the Trust’s role in the #Liverpool4Ukraine appeal.
“We are extremely proud to continue to support people in Ukraine in their time of need, and I must thank my WWL colleagues for their time and effort in helping appeals like this.
“Staff from our Emergency Department provided us with great insight as to what the most effective and efficient medical equipment would be, whilst our Catering Team helped to organise the food and drink provisions.
“I have to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped us make this level of support possible, to the Archdiocese of Liverpool and our partners Greenmount Projects, whose Chief Executive, Mike Sharkey played such an important role in organising everything.
“On behalf of everyone at the Trust, I would like to thank the team and wish them a safe return journey.”
