The new AI technology is just one of the latest developments in breast screening and breast surgery advancements at WWL. We are delighted to report that we recently secured Greater Manchester funding for a new Laminar theatre to be built at the Trust’s Leigh Infirmary site to open in 2023, which will increase the range of breast surgery procedures able to take place at that location. Moving breast surgery from Wrightington Hospital to Leigh Infirmary will enable the Wrightington site to focus on its role as an orthopaedic surgical hub for Greater Manchester, while also taking pressure away from the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary as work continues on our elective recovery programme to reduce patient waiting times for surgery.
