A senior clinician at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) has been awarded one of the highest accolades in UK emergency care.
Professor Ayaz Abbasi, Consultant in Emergency Medicine, Director of Quality and Safety and Director of Clinical Audit and Effectiveness at WWL, has received a medal from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM).
The Royal College Medal is awarded in recognition of outstanding services to the RCEM and sustained contributions to developing emergency medicine as a specialty. Peer-assessed at a national level, it represents one of the most prestigious distinctions attainable in emergency care, recognising exemplary clinical leadership, commitment to advancing medical standards, and lifelong dedication to patient safety.
Reflecting on the national recognition, Prof Abbasi said: "To be acknowledged by one's professional peers is one of the greatest privileges in any career. I accepted this medal with immense appreciation and humility."
