Keen walkers at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) have completed the gruelling Welsh 3000s challenge to raise essential funds for Three Wishes, the Trust’s dedicated hospital charity.
Eight colleagues - Joshua Balmer, Andrew Ledwith, Louise Leyshon, Leon Fairclough, Nathan Lever, Tony Ashcrost, Hannah Walker and Jen Radcliffe - joined forces to climb all 15 mountains in Wales over 3,000 feet within a demanding 24-hour window.
Covering miles of rugged terrain and steep ascents, the team demonstrated immense determination and resilience following months of preparation.
Between them they have raised over £4,000 for the charity which directly supports projects that enhance patient care, funds staff training and specialist medical equipment, and improves hospital environments across the Trust beyond what standard NHS funding can routinely cover.
Emily Mundon, Charity Manager at Three Wishes, highlighted the impact of their fundraising efforts: "We are so grateful to our colleagues for their remarkable effort and determination in completing the Welsh 3000s. Fundraising like this makes a world of difference to our hospitals. It allows Three Wishes to provide extra comforts, cutting-edge equipment, and enhanced environments that directly improve the experience and well-being of our patients and staff. Without the dedication of supporters like them, these additional enhancements simply wouldn't be possible."
Donations to support the team’s fundraising efforts are still open and can be made online via JustGiving www.justgiving.com/team/estatesandfacilitieswelsh3000s
The next big fundraiser is the Wigan 10K Run and Three Wishes is officially calling on the Wigan community, local businesses, and fitness enthusiasts to dust off their running shoes for this next major event.
