The safety, wellbeing and experience of women, babies and families are at the heart of everything we do.
Following the publication of the final report of the Thirlwall Inquiry on 15th September 2026, established following the conviction of former neonatal nurse Lucy Letby, our thoughts remain with all the babies and families affected.
We recognise that the findings of the Inquiry, and the wider coverage surrounding its publication, may be distressing and may understandably cause some families to feel anxious or have questions about their own care or the care of their baby.
At WWL, we are committed to providing safe, compassionate and transparent care. We want parents and families to feel involved, informed and listened to throughout their care. You are an important partner in your baby's care, and we encourage you to ask questions, seek explanations and raise any concerns at any time.
Our Maternity and Children and Young People's services are currently rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and as always, we remain committed to learning, listening and continually improving the care and experience we provide.
How to share feedback or raise a concern
We want you to feel confident that your voice will be heard and your concerns taken seriously. There are several ways you can speak to us or seek support:
Speak to your clinical team: You can speak to any member of the team caring for you or your baby, including the Neonatal Unit Manager, Matron or Consultant. Alternatively you can speak to our Executive Maternity Champions, who are Chief Nursing Officer Kev Parker-Evans and Non-Executive Director Mary Moore. Raising a question or concern will not adversely affect the care that you or your baby receives.
Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS): If you would prefer to discuss your experience or concerns with someone outside your immediate clinical team, you can contact PALS at PatientRelations@wwl.nhs.uk.
Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP): You can also share feedback about maternity and neonatal services with your local MNVP. Contact Nicola@voicesforchoices.org.uk or Wigan@voicesforchoices.org.uk.
Independent support from Bliss: Bliss, the national charity supporting babies born premature or sick and their families, also provides information and support. Visit www.bliss.org.uk.
We are here to support you.
If you have questions or concerns, please speak to us. We will listen, take your concerns seriously and support you throughout your care at WWL.
