Every day you go above and beyond to provide safe, compassionate, and expert care to our patients,” those were the words of Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s (WWL) Chief Nurse, Rabina Tindale on International Nurses Day, as she thanked WWL’s nurses for the contributions they make to patients across the Wigan Borough every single day.
Speaking at a coffee morning and lunch at WWL’s Trust Headquarters in Wigan, held in recognition of the hard work and dedication demonstrated by its nursing staff to celebrate International Nurses Day (May 12), Rabina also presented awards and certificates to deserving recipients.
Presentations were given by some of the Trust’s nursing staff, sharing the amazing progress within nursing at WWL, this also included recollections of their experiences of working through the pandemic.
Rabina said: “I would like to take a moment to thank all our amazing nurses on this International Nurses Day. Every day they go above and beyond to provide safe, compassionate, and expert care to our patients, and for that I must stress how valued they are within our WWL family.
“We have a richly diverse network of nurses here at WWL, all coming together from different backgrounds and experiences to form an incredible team.
“Our nurses make a hugely positive impact to patients, not only to patients and the people of the Wigan Borough, but to each other, their wider colleagues at WWL and the Trust’s local, regional and national partners.”
This year’s award winners were named as:
- Nurse Leader of the Year – Paige Deegan
- Registered Nurse of the Year – Vusile Siphuma
- Unregistered Nurse of the Year – Rachel Heyes
- Learner of the Year – Yasmina Reina Cuadrado
- Nurse Degree Apprenticeships – Gillian Fields, Michael Maguire and Doreen Holmes
- Nurse Associates – Liz Fernley, Karen Monaghan, Rachael Leyland, Girlie B Chadderton, Tom Wiseman, Emma Cleary, Charlotte Tobbell and Hannah Roberts
Gillian Fields, a Student Nurse who received a certificate for Nurse Degree Apprenticeships, said: “It was quite an emotional moment to receive this recognition from our Chief Nurse in front of WWL’s senior nursing leaders.
“I’ve worked in healthcare for 20 years, and the support I received from my colleagues at WWL to become a qualified nurse has been amazing.”
Following the mornings celebrations, the Chief Nurse and members of her senior team visited the clinical areas across the trust in the afternoon.
As well as the awards, wellbeing baskets, that included refreshments, biscuits and thank you cards, were sent to each area across the Trust and a special ‘Vision of Excellence’ evening was held at Kilhey Court.
