Background

Puneet specializes in arthroscopic shoulder surgery, shoulder replacements, upper limb surgery and reconstructive trauma surgery. He also focuses on management of shoulder problems including impingement and rotator cuff tendon disorders, sports injuries, dislocations and arthritis. He uses office ultrasound to provide a one-stop clinic service to his patients. Puneet is also on the Trauma and Orthopaedics Specialist Register. His trauma practice includes musculoskeletal trauma especially upper limb injuries, fractures and dislocations.

Puneet qualified in medicine from New Delhi in 1997. Following achievement of his membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh), he undertook higher surgical specialist registrar training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in the Northwest region working in and around various hospitals in Manchester. During his training he was awarded the Alan Glass memorial prize for his work on forearm fractures and achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2009. He undertook upper limb and shoulder fellowships at the Wrightington Hospital and Royal Preston Hospital. In addition he travelled to shoulder surgeons in Houston, San Antonio and New York (USA) as a British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) fellow. He also achieved the prestigious British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) fellowship to visit the shoulder service in Zurich (Switzerland) and Stockholm (Sweden).

He teaches at various regional, national and international courses, specialist registrar training programme and the basic surgical training programme. He is a regular faculty and convener for various shoulder arthroscopy, shoulder arthroplasty, shoulder ultrasound, Master of Surgery (MCh), Master of Science (MSc), basic sciences and FRCS (Orth) preparatory courses.

He maintains his keen interest in research and has been involved in various scientific publications including postgraduate theses, peer-reviewed journals articles, book chapters and periodicals. His specialist research interest lies in the biomechanics of the shoulder having undertaken pioneering research exploring application of shoulder kinematics in clinical situations. He regularly audits clinical practice to ensure that care for patients are provided at the highest level.
