Matthew Ricks is a fellowship trained Upper Limb consultant specialising in the Hand, Wrist, Elbow and Shoulder and is on the GMC specialist register. He is a new addition to the team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh and is a full time Orthopaedic Consultant providing Trauma care at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary Hospital (Wigan) and a full Elective service at Wrightington Hospital.

He completed his Orthopaedic surgical training in London and the south of England spending his final year doing Complex tertiary trauma and Elective Upper limb work at University Hospital Southampton a level 1 Trauma Unit. After completing his training he undertook international Upper limb fellowships in Nice, France and Melbourne, Australia. Coming back to the UK to do an Upper limb fellowship at Wrightington Hospital and subsequently being appointed as a Consultant. He was awarded the prestigious BESS travelling fellowship and visited North America.

He has also been awarded the Ethicon and Barbers awards and has spent time abroad developing Upper limb operative skills to bring to the UK.
Mr Ricks has maintained a strong interest in teaching and research and has completed a BSc and two Masters degrees in the area of Trauma and Orthopaedics. Matthew has over 30 publications in the international medical literature and regularly presents his work around the globe. He is very enthusiastic about teaching fellows, trainees and healthcare professionals.
