I am a trained Colorectal surgeon with a special interest in complex IBD and colorectal cancers. I completed my General Surgical and Colorectal training in the UK and travelled to the Cleveland Clinic in the US for a one-year International Fellowship Programme. After completing my fellowship in July 2020, I was appointed as "Associate Staff Colorectal Surgeon" at the Cleveland Clinic for a further one-year. I am currently appointed in the post of Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon at WWL Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since September 2021.

My specialisation involves primarily dealing with locally advanced colorectal cancers and complex inflammatory bowel disorders. I am trained and able to perform all types of open, laparoscopic, trans-anal minimally invasive colorectal cancer surgery and practice high-quality, evidence-based medicine. Besides the above, I also have excellent operative and clinical management experience of hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes, anal fissures, haemorrhoids, and pelvic floor disorders.

Besides my clinical work, I am a research enthusiast, and have experience in both translational and clinical-based research. I have participated in many national and international collaborative clinical trials and studies and hold a post-graduate Master's in translational research from the University of Hull and York, UK. I produced a thesis on the role of "Putative biomarkers of radiotherapy resistance in rectal and chemotherapy resistance in breast cancers” from my extensive research of the topic of colorectal and breast cancers. I work currently as a peer reviewer for various surgical and oncology journals (Clinical Oncology News, World Journal of Surgical Oncology, The Annals of Royal College of Surgeons, England, Journal of Cancer Biology & Research) and hold an Editorial Board Membership for the Journal of Surgery. To date, I have more than 30 peer-reviewed publications on various surgical and oncology topics, besides three book chapters and more than seventy-five plus abstract publications and presentations in various surgical meetings. I am also currently the Divisional Clinical Lead for Research in Surgery at the WWL Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Further, I am also a very keen educationist and hold a Bachelor's degree in Higher Education and Professional Development from the University of Huddersfield, UK. I was appointed as a "Clinical Tutor" for the Hull York Medical School in the UK for three years and helped develop the "Problem Based Learning" curriculum for the medical school during my tenure. I am awarded the title honour "Membership of Faculty of Surgical Trainers" by the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh college, for my work in education and training. I currently serve as a faculty for various surgical courses (BSS, CCrISP, MRCS and FRCS preparatory courses) of the Royal College of Surgeons, England and The Christie’s Educational Program. I have extensive experience developing and managing educational teaching and training courses for surgical trainees and medical students since 2014, and serve as a medical school examiner for "Manchester University."
